I've been reading and admiring everyone's "2012 fic in review" posts. There's been a lot of fabulous writing over the last year!

My sole published fic for 2012 was a drabble, so I will spare y'all a post in which I choose which one is the best fic, most underrated, most commented-upon, etc. Let's just say it wasn't the most productive year ;-)

So it's clearly time to get back on the horse. I've signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] picfor1000 challenge, whose theme is "copper, silver, and gold"; every prompt photo includes one of these (the colour, at least, if not the metal itself). My pic assignment is over here. It's a pair of golden rings, very beautifully photographed.

I like my pic, it's definitely got a lot of potential, but on the whole it's always much easier to brainstorm other people's prompts than my own (why is that). So right now I'm staring at it and trying to think of associations and plot bunnies that are likely to work comfortably with the 1,000-words-exactly format. That's the fun AND the challenge, of course :-)

Unsurprisingly, most of the ideas I've had so far are high crack.

Personally I think it would have been highly entertaining to do the YIR for your drabble but then I'm cracked that way. *g*

I'd still be looking hard at Warehouse 13.

Heh, I'm not ruling it out entirely. I'm ridiculously rusty at blogging too for that matter, so everything's fair game at the moment. *shifty eyes*

That definitely qualifies as a most brilliant idea. Only thing is, for some reason I'm generally lukewarm about writing (or even reading) WH13 fanfic - don't know why, but it's one of those shows where my enjoyment is pretty much confined to watching the canon and chatting with the OH about it.

That said, I'm certainly not ruling it out! For example the WH13 wiki mentions a certain mysterious ring of Helena's that has never been satisfactorily accounted for. Just think of the possibilities ;-)

For now I'm trying not to assume anything about which fandom it'll be, just trying to come up with random associations based on the pic, then see what arises out of those. Worryingly, the one I feel most gleeful about is the green card one *cough*

I LOVE the green card idea.

And hey, sooner or later one has to write at least one story for a megafandom. I think it's the law or something...

Yay!

*nods* Too true.

And that reminds me, I also wrote a ridiculous crackfic for BBC Sherlock in 2012 (as well as the drabble, I mean) - so my published output is approx. 1000% more than I thought it was. *dances about*

I have a weird habit of checking out all my mates' picfor1000 pics before scrolling down to my own and I had immediate prompt-envy for your pic. It's beautifully photographed and just unique enough to get the gears turning. Hope you have fun with it!

*frowns bemusedly at her fireworks pic*

Oddly enough the first thing I thought of was your S&G icon. *points*

If the photo is really hopeless then free association is your best friend.

BTW, while researching a possible plot bunny I discovered that in the 17th century, 'pike' was a euphemism for penis. But of course you know that, right? ;-)

Well, it is fireworks... I figure if I'm really stuck I could just take it in its metaphorical sense and write sex sex sex. Y'know, business as usual ;)

Well, naturally I knew that. In fact, I'm pretty sure Captain Pike here travelled back in time just to make it so. *g*

WHY IS THAT. I did that when I signed up for (shh let's never talk about it after this one time) kink_bingo, where everyone else's cards looked SO achieveable.

High crack -- oh do it, do it.

TBH I think it's because there's no pressure when you're brainstorming vicariously. Whereas when I do the same with my own prompt pic, there's a part of my brain that's growling, "You had better think up something good or this will fall flat, fall FLAAAAAT I tells ya!"

I've signed up for three of the bingoes - binghi? - but I've never been grabbed enough by the results to write something. Maybe the problem is that there's so much overlap? ('Fever/illness' is on all three. Also 'Wildcard', WHAT'S WITH THAT.)

But I know, I know I could totally rock mundane_bingo. If it still existed. *mourns* I don't suppose there's a silly_bingo out there? *investigates* Phooey. *cries*
