Day 3: Fandom meme!

This is ganked from [livejournal.com profile] blythechild, [livejournal.com profile] draycevixen and who knows how many other people by the time I finish typing this ;-)

1. Choose a fandom from the following list: ACD Sherlock Holmes; Almost Human; Battlestar Galactica; BBC Sherlock; Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Cabin Pressure; Caprica; Castle; CBC's The National; The Clangers; Community; Eternal Law; Father Ted; Jane Austen (all); Life on Mars; Monty Python; Sleepy Hollow; Warehouse 13. There, that should be enough to suit anyone!

2. Comment here with one of the above fandoms.

3. I will tell you the following:

• The first character I first fell in love with
• The character everyone else loves that I don’t
• The character I love that everyone else hates
• The character I used to love but don’t any longer
• The character I would totally smooch/get friendly with
• The character I’d want to be like
• The character I’d slap
• A pairing that I love
• A pairing that I despise

Clangers go with everything!

OK, to Battlestar Galactica.

The first character I first fell in love with: Laura Roslin. In the pilot, she's so far from being prepared to run things it's not funny, NO ONE takes her seriously at first - but she knows the job's fallen to her, so by God she learns as she goes. And Laura learns fast.

Plus I immediately admired her humour, her humility, and her commitment to the primacy of civilian government - although of course Laura is not perfect and ventures into morally grey areas quite often as the series progresses.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Lee Adama. Most of the time I found him somewhat flat and two-dimensional. And OK, infidelity, but his betrayal of Dualla left such a bad taste, I can't even. Although he redeemed himself a bit by defending Gaius ata the trial >:-D

The character I love that everyone else hates: I'm not sure how hated he is by fandom, but Number One/Brother Cavil was FABULOUS. Such evil snarky goodness.

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Eep, I'm not that actually happened with me. Maybe Chief Tyrol? My affection for him waned after the Revelation, for whatever reason. I did think he was awesome as Union!Man!Galen, though.

The character I would totally smooch/get friendly with: at the moment I'm thinking Starbuck. She'd be a terrible influence in lots of ways, but she's brave, a loyal mate and would be great fun to get drunk with.

The character I’d want to be like: A mixture of William Adama, Laura Roslin, and Romo Lampkin.

The character I’d slap: Gaius. Who doesn't want to slap Gaius? He's eminently slappable.

A pairing that I love: Mmm, probably Adama/Roslin... the way they developed that beautiful, deep mutual respect and affection.

A pairing that I despise: the early days of Saul/Ellen made me cringe. Ellen's death on New Caprica was a masterful touch of tragedy, though. (I'm still not sure what I think of the Cylon-reveal aftermath.)

I read your blog comments on BSG and was trying hard not to duplicate them, but it was no use because we are braintwinned on Apollo and Cavil. And a good many others apparently.. *shifty eyes*
